DETECTIVE

DetectiveGeneral Experience:

High school graduate, or GED certificate. Prior criminal justice experience in law enforcement. Must possess working knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities listed below. Must be MLEOTC or MCOLES certified.

Specialized Experience:

Training and/or experience in major case investigations. Ability to oversee all criminal investigations and maintain superintending control to manage and coordinate multiple efforts. Familiarity in interviewing and interrogation. Ability to prepare major case reports for prosecutorial and court purposes.

Brief Description of Duties:

As a member of the Sheriff's Staff, the Detective will coordinate/conduct major investigations of this agency, and assist agencies on a priority basis. The Detective is responsible for maintaining records/reports as required and review cases for investigative leads and case management. The Detective will provide crime/analysis and recommend response. The Detective will provide support to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Examples of Work:

Conduct death investigations, major crimes of violence and significant property crimes. Coordinate the investigations of Youth and Narcotics sections. Respond to traffic crashes where there are serious injuries or deaths. Develop intelligence on criminal activity. Develop/maintain lines of communication with area agencies to enhance criminal investigation information flow.
